Where is a friend like Thee, O Essence of Mercy?
Where is another friend like Thee
To stand by me through pain and pleasure? Who, among all my friends, forgives my failings,
Bringing me comfort for my grief, Soothing my spirit in its terror?
Thou art the Helmsman who dost steer life's craft Across the world's perilous sea;
Thy grace it is alone, O Lord, That silences my raging passions' storm.
Thou pourest out the waters of peace
Upon my burning, penitent soul;
And Thine is the bosom that will shelter me
When every other friend I own
Deserts me in my dying hour.

"हे दयाघन, तुम्हारे जैसा हितकारी और कौन है?
इस प्रकार सुख और दुःख में समान रूप से साथ देनेवाला।
सभी पाप-ताप, भय आदि का हरण करनेवाला साथी दूसरा कौन है?
संकटों से पूर्ण इस घोर भवसागर से तारनेवाला खेवैया और कौन हैं?
किसकी कृपा से ये संग्रामकारी रिपुगण पराजित होकर दूर भागते हैं?
इस प्रकार समस्त पापों का दहन और त्रिताप का निवारण कर शान्तिजल प्रदान करनेवाला और कौन है?
अन्त समय में, जब सभी लोग त्याग देते हैं उस समय, कौन इस तरह बहि फैलाकर गोद में ले लेता है?”
